About Dhruv.
Having its full name as INS Dhruv, this investigated equipment was built by India’s Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) in association with National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO) and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Some important points to remember are as follows:
- This 10,000-tonne ship is capable of tracking nuclear-powered flying artilleries at a long range.
- Formerly it was only known by its yard number as VC-11184 designated to it in the shipyard.
- It can also easily map the beds of the ocean to detect any enemy submarines.
- Capable of gathering electronic intelligence, the ship has cost around ₹1,500 crores in its development.
- It is designed by Vik Sandvik Design in India.
- With a length and beam of 175 and 22 metres respectively, Dhruv can attain a speed of 21 draughts of 6 metres and can attain a speed of 21 knots
The launch event.
As per the reports, Dhruv will officially be launching on September 10, 2021, in Vishakhapatnam. A number of officials would take part in the event highlighting some considerations.
- The commission of India’s first satellite and N-missile is expected to be carried out by Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor.
- Other important officials including Karambir Singh, the chief of NSA and Anil Dasmana,Chairman,NTRO along with Navy officials and senior DRDO scientists will be present at the launching ceremony.
- Further, the tracking ship is likely to be operated by one of the Indian Navy’s staff alongside with Strategic Forces Command (SFC).
Future Prospects.
Since, to date, such ships are manned only by a few countries namely the US, the UK, China and Russia, India has put a step forward to get this efficient safety seawater instrumentation as a gift for the Indian Navy. Some of the prospects this ship has for our nation comprise of:
- Its capability to act as a timely warning system for any danger from the enemy’s end heading towards the Indian region makes it important and beneficial weaponry for India.
- Also, it will play a lead role in awarding marine areas lying in the Indo-Pacific region.
- It proves to be an important development in an era where a large use of submerged missiles and investigatory types of equipment is implicated.
- Acting as a force multiplier to Indian navy design, it can simply benefit by understanding the true strength of the enemy’s missile.
- Since it is equipped with AESA, a radar, it can scan different ranges to observe any secret satellite with a proper range.
- This will help the Indian navy monitoring different boundary regions including Lombok, Ombai, Sunda, Wetar straits and the South China Sea via Malacca.
