The Devon Island.
Located in Canada, Devon island is known to be the world’s largest uninhabited island on Earth. It is observed that there has not been a single permanent resident on Earth. The Devon Island is sited in Baffin Bay, Nunavut, the Qikiqtaaluk area, and Canada. It has some important reputed categories signifying its importance. A few of such rankings are as follows:
- It is the second prime island among Queen Elizabeth Islands.
- It is known to be one of the major members of the Arctic Archipelago.
- Major Canadian landform as its sixth island.
- Has 27th rank among all the Islands in the world.
Apart from such rankings, this Island holds a vast area of approximately 55,247 km2. It has certain features showing similarities with that of the surface of Mars. This is why this island is a point of interest for many scientists and researchers. The topmost pointed region of this Island’s ice cap is at a height of 6,300 feet. This point is specifically designated as the Arctic Cordillera. Moreover, there are numerous mountainous ranges on this island namely Cunningham Mountains, Treuter Mountains, and Haddington mountainous range.

The Devon Island was sighted for the first time in Canada by Robert Bylot and William Baffin. These were the first Europeans to reveal something about this unique place. Its southeastern coast was excavated by 1819- 1820 by a famous archaeologist named William Edmond.
Further, its name got changed to this Devon island by the ending of year 1800s. In its proximal region, there is an outpost being established in 1924 at Dundas Harbour. Though this outpost was collapsed due to some harsh climatic conditions, it was reestablished and populated again by the late 1940s. Further, with an undefined reason, this place got emptied again with not even a single people living there. Thereby, making this place left with only the ruins of buildings till today.

- Devon Island has a relatively high elevation with an extremely high temparture in northern latitude. This is one of the factors that makes this place unsuitable to live for people in.
- This area has a temperature lying between 10-15 °C in summers whereas −50 °C to -40 °C in winter seasons.
- This island has very low vegetation and only small birds and mammals. This is why it can be acknowledged to be a place with minimal to no flora and fauna.
- This place has a glacial desert ecology, which leads to the falling of only a little amount of precipitation here.
