Ghaziabad is one of the developing cities of Uttar Pradesh in India among various mini-metro cities. On its north, the city is bounded by the Meerut district, with Gautam Buddha Nagar and Bulandseher on the south, Delhi on the southwest, and the district Jyotibaphule Nagar as the eastern periphery. 1. Gateway of U.P

Having 18 divisions sub-classified into a total of 75 districts, and 67 cities, Uttar Pradesh has Ghaziabad known as its Gateway. Owing to its proximity towards the national capital Delhi, the city has got this additional title as it is the main entrance of U.P. Being so close to Delhi, Ghaziabad is often understood as a  part of the country’s capital. It is considered one of the most urbanized cities in the state.

Ghaziabad is a flourishing city from the cultural, historical, mythological, and archaeological viewpoints. A city about 2.5 Km away from the Hindon river and situated in the middle of two holy rivers namely Ganga and Yamuna has a glorious past mostly left unrecognized to date.

An excavation was carried out on the banks of river Hindon, located at a distance of 2 km north from Mohan Nagar revealed that civilization in this city dates back to 2500 B.C. Many of the places in this city are having historical significance mentioned below.

  • Kot” village of Ghaziabad- associated with the famous emperor Samundra Gupta. The Aswamedha Yagya was performed by him after destroying the fort and “Kot Kuljam”.Since the incident was of great historical prominence during that period, the place was given a name based on it.
  • In 1313, the city became a huge battleground during the region of Sultan Muhammad-bin –Tuglak.
  • Loni district of the city was presumed as it was a place for pleasure trips and hunting for the Mughal kings. A memorial named Baage Ranap is found allied with this period.
  • In 1398, the war between Tugluqs and Timur was fought at Surajpur.
  • In 1803, the war between Sir General Lake and the Royal Maratha army was fought on the banks of river Hindon.
  • Another and is the most important war fought at the banks of river Hindon on 30-31 May 1857 with the Britishers which was considered as the first war of independence during the same year.

4. Sources to Ramayana and Mahabharata.

The city with a climate like of nation’s capital has relations with some chief religious era linked to Hindu culture.

  • Garhmukteshwar (at the banks of Ganga)- associated with the Mahabharat period.
  • The Loni fort– found its association with the Ramayana period. As per the archaeologists and the Gazetteer, the fort was named after Lavanasura of that period i.e. Loni got its name from Lavana.

  • 1944- Ravindra Singh Bisht, a famous archaeologist was born in the Sahibabad district of Ghaziabad.
  • 1945- Rajesh Pilot, was an Indian politician born in the Vaidpura district of Ghaziabad.
  • 1975- Parag Tyagi, a film actor was born in Modinagar, Ghaziabad.
  • 1978-Lara Dutta, a 43 years old film actress securing the title of Miss Universe 2000, was born in Ghaziabad.
  • 1986- Suresh Raina, the famous cricket player was born in the Muradnagar district of the city.

Apart from a few names mentioned above, we have a long list of such talented people born in this city.

Ghaziabad being such a large district and city, had been in the headlines from time to time. Different politicians including Suresh Bansal, Atul Garg, Surendra Prakash Goel, Rajnath Singh, and V. K. Singh belong to this city. Some of its political aspects are mentioned below.

  • Governed by the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation(GMC) under the Uttar Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1959.
  • GMC is divided into 5 zones – Kavi Nagar Zone, Mohan Nagar Zone, City Zone, Vijay Nagar Zone, and Vasundhara Zone having a municipal corporation covering 100 wards.
  • The departments under municipal corporation include Public welfare dept., property tax, street light, water management, I.T dept, etc.
  • Currently, the Lok Sabha constituency of Ghaziabad embraces five legislative assemblies (Vidhan Sabha) sections namely Sahibabad, Muradnagar, Loni, Hapur, and Ghaziabad.

7. Education system at the glance.

Not only higher education but a better way of life can be achieved through an enormous extent of resources the great city, Ghaziabad provides to its residents. The city has an exceptional standard of education, fulfilling the requirements of students to achieve the aim of their lives.
