One such specialty is their smelling power. They can smell so well from approximately a longer distance. This is because of the smell receptors they have on their nose. This is enough to shock you that the dogs have nearly 200 million olfactory receptors on their nose ( more than 33 times than an individual human being has).
They have a sharp brain with an efficiency of working 40 times greater than a human’s. Dogs have a unique attribute known as neophilia. This is referred to as their tendency of getting easily engrossed in the new and unique aromas.
Even though man has developed many efficient smelling devices, dogs have the most sensitive smelling characteristics. This makes the man-made efficient machinery stand nowhere in comparison to the dog’s proficient smelling system. They have a most advanced respiratory and sniffing system naturally installed in their body.

Dogs are so expert in sniffing, that they can detect any substances even in their lowest concentrations. It is due to this reason that the dogs are used to perform military services. They have trained to breathe out a bomb or any sort of drugs. Following this training, they can easily find out any hidden bombs or such dreadful substances diffusing any danger. They can help in taking on track over the suspects following their smell or reaching up the suspected dead bodies.

This may sound a little new to you, but dogs are also used to experiment with whether a person is suffering from diseases or not. They have the caliber to distinguish between a healthy person and the diseased with problems like diabetes, tuberculosis, cancers, or malaria. The nose of dogs performs in a slightly different manner than ours.
- We have the same airway and the respiratory system to inhale or exhale through our nose via nostrils. Whereas the dog’s nose is comprised of an external folded tissue or skin lying onside their nostrils. This helps them perform inhalation and exhalation differently through different separated airways.
- Another different process in us is the way we exhale out the air. We breathe out the air via our nose after refiing any of the unwanted odours outside itself. In other words, we refer to the consumed air out in the same way it came inside the body. Whereas dogs exhale the spent air out via the slits present on both sides of their nose.
- Last but not the least, Dogs can wiggle up their noses which is impossible for us to do. Further,they carry the small aerodynamic portion in their nose to distinguish the type of odor taken inwards. This makes their nose different from ours and the fact of their carrying of 200 million receptors gets clear to the mark.
