Can a human or animal remain alive even after the head is cut off? You would say – not at all. But in America, 72 years ago, such a strange incident happened. Here a rooster was alive for about 18 months despite being cut off his head. At that time people were surprised to see a chicken without a head. Now you must be thinking that how did this happen, so let us also tell about it.

Miracle Mike.

This chicken was named ‘Miracle Mike’. In fact, on September 10, 1945, farmer Lloyd Olsen living in Fruita, Colorado, with his wife Clara, was cutting chickens on his farm. He slaughtered many chickens. During this, Lloyd beheaded a five-and-a-half-month-old chicken, whose name was Mike, but he was surprised when the rooster was not dead but was running without a head. After this they locked him in a box, but when he woke up the next morning, he was alive.

The news of the headless chicken being alive gradually spread throughout Fruita and then to many cities in America. It is said that scientists from the University of Utah located in Salt Lake City had cut off the heads of many chickens to know whether they live without the head or not, but they did not find the quality like Mike in any chicken.

According to media reports, this headless chicken was given juice from drops and its food pipe was cleaned with syringes, so that it would not suffocate. However, he died in March 1947. The reason for this is said to be that Lloyd Olsen could not clean his food pipe with syringes after giving him the juice, because he had forgotten the syringe somewhere else. Because of this, Mike died of suffocation.

It is said that the fame of ‘Miracle Mike’ had spread so much that Lloyd Olsen had even put a ticket to see him. At that time, he used to earn $ 4500 per month from that chicken. According to today, these 4500 dollars are about three lakh 20 thousand rupees. It was because of this chicken that Lloyd Olsen’s financial condition had improved.

According to the BBC report, Dr. Tom Smulders, a chicken expert associated with the Center for Behavior and Evolution at Newcastle University, says that you will be surprised that the entire head of the chicken is in a small part behind the skeleton of its eyes. Reportedly, Mike had lost his beak, face, and eyes, but Smulders estimates that 80 percent of his brain was left behind, allowing Mike to continue his body, heartbeat, breathing, appetite and digestive system.

Today the ‘Headless Chicken’ festival is celebrated every year in Fruta. It was started in the year 1999. Thousands of people participate in this festival, in which there are many types of competitions and there is even a song-playing program.
