The standard practice before the electric street lightening.
Before any electricity lamps arrived at the Bengaluru city, residents there used kerosene lamps over the dotted roads. This required three different people to be appointed to handle the street lighting. They have different tasks following each other to look after the street light.
The first was supposed to clean up the black soot left out from the fuel that burnt in the night before. The next one fills up the kerosene whereas the third person was responsible to light up the flame each day. Further, an inspector came over around to make sure about the lighting in the city. This practice was done regularly in the Bengaluru region of the country.
Setting up of this historical street light.
On the sunny day of 5 August 1905, an initiative to arrange a street light for KR Market of Bengaluru, India was being taken up. The decision was build-up looking at the heavy crowd and narrowed ways to crossover along with the darkness all over.
A large group of people emerged or gathered at the place around the KR Market. They all waited to look at the process to get a flick of a switch handling the lights. This was the very first day when the very first city of Asia got its street lightened up with electricity.

After the street light was fitted up there, many historians came forward to collect about the views of nearby residents and evaluate some of their own. One such urban historian Yashaswini Sharma revealed that “ The hydroelectric power plant to convert water to electricity was connected from the Cauvery Falls located at Shivanasamudra.
After carrying out the power mining operations at the nearby range of Kolar Gold Fields (KGF), the transmitting line was delivered over Bengaluru. Moreover, she added that when the hydroelectric power plant produced excessive electricity, the power from there was used to lighten up the electric street lights of the city.
The notion behind its development.
The idea of developing electricity services in Bengaluru from the Shivanasamudra emerged from Major ACJ de Lotbiniere. It was during Seshadri Iyer was the dewan of Mysore city. Under his supervision along with the chief electrical engineer of Mysore, Sir Harry Parker Gibbs the execution of street lightning came into force of the scheme.
Many other reputed people of the area supported this scheme to their best. John Taylor & Sons of London, were two amongst such personalities of the city to support this lightning service. After the planning, the power transmission line was landed for about 150 km from Shivanasamudra to KGF.
