About Quokka.

This short-tailed sweet-natured marsupial is an inhabitant of Australia. Its scientific name is Setonix brachyurus but is generally called scrub wallaby. Quokka being a small macropod, has a normal size of just like a domestic cat.  Talking about their appearance, Quokka has a furry, gray-brownish-colored body. Just like kangaroos, these tiny creatures hold a pouch in which they carry their young ones in their residing habitat.

Existence on the planet.

Quokkas are considered to be the important residents of sparsely populated Rottnest Island. Even though they are under the endangered category in some of the regions of Australia, their least population is now improving in centuries and national wildlife centers.

Quokkas have got their name from a German word i.e, rat’s nest. They were so named by the German people who lived there thousands of years ago. According to them, the quokkas were no better than rats by their looks and so named them “the Quokkas”. After their habitat care and various protection schemes, the population of Quokkas has now grown up to 14,000 on the Australian continent.

Characteristic aspects.

Being the only member of the genus Setonix, Quokkas are considered to have a relation with the marsupials family due to their body size, shape, and attributes. Such like the kangaroos and wallabies, these small creatures carry a pouch to hold their young ones. Also, they gave a small mouth to eat up the things along with the same capability to gather their food. The Quokkas are herbivores by behavior and they tend to gather their food mainly during night times (nocturnals).
