Thereby it is really important to keep the earth under complete balance with its components. The sustainability of human beings on earth is largely dependent on natural resources like air, water, and sunlight.

Also, the products are obtained from animals and plants are equally important to satisfy their requirements. Hence, going through a huge loss of animals and plants. Human is getting selfish day by day killing and destroying the ecological components. Leather Was Made Using Cactus

For instance, to get the desired products, animals like sheep, goats, elephants, etc are killed which poses harm to wildlife. Subsequently, some people are trying to maintain a pace to avoid any of such fauna’s loss. In this blog, we would discuss the two brothers who had put forward a step to save animals from getting killed for their skin.

Discovery of plant-based leather.

Leather has been a widely used material in the clothing industry. Be it the jacket, trousers, or leather shoes, in every aspect, the leather is used and leather made clothes are then sold at higher prices. But for a long time, we have been aware of the fact that leather can only be obtained from the skin of animals.

On one hand, we are in love with leather-based products and clothes, but it is becoming the major cause behind the killing of animals and indirectly affecting the environment by creating an imbalance in the ecosystem. To cope with this, two Mexican brothers have discovered a leather made up of the plant. Leather Was Made Using Cactus

Mexican brothers- the two discoverers.

Being one of the most traded products, leather is a share of the $80 billion industry. Since the production of leather makes use of animal products and some harsh chemicals, it is a big environmental issue for all of us. Fortunately, the two Mexican tycoons have found a way to make eco-friendly leather resembling most of the properties of actual leather. Leather Was Made Using Cactus

The process behind the making of “false leather”

Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez are the two Mexicans who have recently come up with an idea to transform cactus into vegan leather. This form of leather resembles the leather made from animal skin in a way that it would be difficult to distinguish the skin-based leather from the plant leather.

The discoverers have named this false leather as ‘Desserto’. This leather has been derived from a species of cactus that grows in the Mexican state of the Zacatecas. Having a thick-skinned surface with ruggedness makes it the suitable producer of false leather. Leather Was Made Using Cactus

Both of the makers have a total of  2 hectares of land where they carry out cultivation for faux-leather production. The process of leather production from cacti is as follows:

  • The mature leaves of cacti are cut. These leaves are cleaned, meshed, and kept in sunlight to get completely dry and ready to be used for processing.
  • These leaves are then dyed using a method developed by the company of Adriano Di Marti, López Velarde’s, and Cázarez altogether. Leather Was Made Using Cactus
  • Once the vegan leather is made, it is certified as organic and kept for use for up to a decade.
