About McDonald’s.

McDonald’s is one of the prominent foodservice retailer companies across the world. Having more than 31,000 restaurants in more than 119 countries, it is serving more than 50 million consumers per day. Although it is expected to have first developed in America, McDonald’s has its roots originated during the mid-’70s from a franchise in Guatemala.

  • The main concept behind McDonald’s happy meal was the children’s meal. It is due to such a concept, they started selling toys along with eatables.
  • As per the sources, the foundation of this brand was laid down by Yolanda Fernández de Cofiño in 1979. Along with her husband she opened a small restaurant and named it the “Menu Ronald”.
  • Initially, small fries, a small sundae, along with a hamburger were offered by McDonald’s to relieve mothers of feeding their siblings more commendably, sitting at their restaurants. However, their concept came into more recognition when focused on by McDonald’s management in Chicago.
  • The production unit was then handed over to Bob Bernstein. Eventually, this re-imagination led to the introduction of the concept of “Happy meal” as we know the present day.

The new concept.

After being handed over to Bernstein, the company got a new hike. Along with the “Happy meal concept”, a surprise gift was now added to the pieces of stuff. The paperboard boxes were created to look like lunch vessels.

The tiny golden arches handles were shaped to provide uniqueness to MacDonald products. The addition of toys as hidden gifts, brought about millions of smiling faces around the globe, creating a different peace of love for McDonald’s.

Implementing the notion of keeping toys along with the meal, the company now started manufacturing toys on a very large scale. The extent of this manufacturing went so robust that it has now reached a threshold of producing 1.5 billion toys per year and distributing them worldwide (far more than Hasbro and Mattel). Some of the early toys created include a wallet, stencil and a spinning top. How ever after some years, the development of toys was based on the promotion of family movies such as “The little mermaid”.

Finally, the red box with a logo and a yellow smiling face over it was developed to be offered as the meal comprising the foodstuff and a toy.

New insights.

Being one of the most loved restaurants, McDonald’s has always been promising to implement new surprises for their customers. For instance, a few years back, a new deal began named “Surprise Happy Meal” was run across 90 countries. This meal included relic toys including Hello kitty, a Furby, Tamagotchi, Hamburglar, and the Grimace.

Earlier, the toys made used over 8.3 billion tons of plastic indirectly harming the environment. Conversely, the company is now aiming to turn environmentally friendly. The goal of radically cut down the use of plastic in toys by 2025, along with the creation of toys made from wooden boards, cardboard, plants and recycled materials is in progress.
