Mexican Hairless Dog- A Dog’s Species With A Statue-Like Appearance.

Many of us are in love with pets. Of all the animals, dogs are most loved and kept as a pet around the world. There are many wonderful species of dogs with some unique attire and appearance. In this blog, we would learn about one such dog. The Mexican hairless dog is one of the famous dog species and is petted due to its sole appearance.

Xoloitzcuintle- being the wonder dog.

Xoloitzcuintle or Xolo is an important species of hairless dog. This breed of dog is found to have three different sizes that are as Estándar (Standard), Intermedio (intermediate), and Miniatura (miniature).

They are also found in a variety of coated fur that means all of their body is covered with fur (not hairs). Both hairless and coated dogs can be observed to have been born in the same family. However, this is only possible in case of the dogs are carrying the same species of dogs.

About the hairless dog’s species.

Even if they are found with many variations, Xoloitzcuintle with the hairless variant is known as the Perro pelón Mexicano or Mexican hairless dog. Some of the major characteristics of Xolo are mentioned as following bullets:

  • They attain duality.
  • They have wrinkles all over their body.
  • They may be found with some dental abnormalities.
  • They carry a primitive temper.

Nomenclature.

Xolo got its name from Nahuatl as xōlōitzcuintli. This terminology suggests having come from the god Xolotl. As per some ancient descriptions and chronicles,  Xolotl has created this breed of dog.

Historical association.

Xolo species has some legendry historical aspects related to it. There have been many ceramic sculptors found in different burial sites in ancient west Mexico. As per some sources, it is revealed that this breed of dogs was used to carry out sacrifices.

They were mainly buried along with their owners. This was done considering that the pet’s soul would guide the owner’s soul during his journey to the underworld. Some of their burials were obtained at the burial sites of  Maya and the Toltec. Also, these dogs were majorly known to have served in banquets during special events in the sixteenth century.

More about the appearance.

There are several interesting facts associated with the appearance of Xolo. Some of them are listed as follows:

  • The size of this breed ranges from 5 to 23 kilograms (10 to 55 lb).
  • Having a height of 23 to 67 centimetres, their appearance has similar attributes as that of Pharaoh Hound. They have almond-shaped eyes along with a shiny body due to the unavailability of hairs.
  • This dog has a dominant trait of hairlessness that have originated in their breed several thousand years ago due to spontaneous mutation.
  • In case this breed gives rise to a puppy with recessive traits being expressed, a coated variety would be observed. However, this condition is completely inseparable from hairlessness.
  • Xolo has a moderate level in nearly all sorts of emotions including agility, conveying an impression of its forte or elegance.
  • It has different bodily proportions. Some of them are rectangular, somewhat longer body length.
