It was on 10 November 1951 when the supervision director of the Guinness Breweries, Sir Hugh Beaver went on a shooting party to be happening in North Slob, Ireland. Missing a shot at the Plover, Bewver went into an argument leading on to about the fastest game bird in Europe. This discussion gave air to the argument, raising it to the level of discovery of the Guinness world record concept.

He realized that it was next to impossible to confirm whether the suggested golden plover was Europe’s fastest game bird or not.
