Share

With a population of more than 166 million, Uttar Pradesh is crowned as the highly populated state in India. Since each coin has two different sides, besides its many outstanding features in terms of healthcare, visiting places, education, etc. this renowned state is infamous with a name “Ulta Pradesh”.

Some reasons behind such defame.

Already mentioned by many journalists and sources, some of the main barriers in the growth and development of this state may include different factors like corruption, improper functioning of different government departments, lack of developmental alignment among successive governments.

As per the government enlistment, the leaders of various political parties have been unable to accomplish their responsibilities resulting in an apt statement given by the general secretary of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) “even corruption has become corrupt in the state”. Not only this, many statements can be found making rounds as the news headlines.

The basic issues that each of us as a population, do feel important in vilifying this wonderland may comprise

  • Lack of proper education
  • Safety of girls becoming a challenge
  • Polluted environment
  • Aggressive people getting the state debounced

In one of the conferences being organized by O.R foundation on “Challenges facing UP”, a politician from NCP mentioned that “lack of cultural dialogue and institutional collapse in the state was worrisome”. This saying was confronting a situation considering these factors important for the debate calling state as the “Ulta Pradesh”.

Also, it was clearly stated that challenging the police department has failed in UP leading to the breakdown of the criminal justice system under the leadership of former Indian Police Service (IPS)officer Ajai Raj Sharma.

Continuing the discussion, Sharma showed a concern with women over the present scenario and stated that “it must be seen how women in the state feel about law and order situation”. Sharat Pradhan, the journalist put forward his speech mentioning the link between Mis-governance to corruption claiming carelessness being shown by systems in their duties.

Discussion for a solution.

A graduate from IIM, Ahemdabad named Saurabh Johri took part in the debate stated the following points:

  • The state requiring reforms in governance for all departments, especially the police.
  • Improvements in financial inclusion
  • Skill development of govt. officials.

He cited that even though, the state has been trying to take a step forward for the betterment of social and economical conditions, there is a necessity to readjust guidelines according to the citizens for versatile development. Further, he said that  UP needs to get the elected representatives, working efficiently in their daily stuff,  fulfilling all their duties with the heart to receive a constructive response out of the state development.

Is debate resolved?

The answer would be “No”. Since, with numerous viewpoints included in the discussion, Mr. Venkitesh Ramakrishnan, another journalist recommended a “more interactive” policy environment in Uttar Pradesh taking the debatable statement i.e, “Uttar Pradesh” as “Ulta Pradesh” carried forward. Last but never a least, such discussions have been over and over, just putting over the standpoints and pleads to be heard to get “UP” as “Uttar Pradesh” and not the “Ulta Pradesh.”
