What is meant by PCOD?

Every woman has two ovaries as their reproductive organ. Each of them is responsible for the release of reproductive eggs alternately every month, 10-15 days before the menstrual periods.

• There are multiple hormones stimulated in the ovaries. One amongst them is androgens (more specifically the male hormones). They are developed in very small quantities.

• PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease) is a disorder where the ovaries release a lot of immature or partially-mature eggs which as a result turn into cysts. 

• Several symptoms indicating PCOD comprise abdominal weight gain, irregular periods, male pattern hair loss, and infertility.

✓ Polycystic Ovarian Disease causes infertility only in some women and is not known as an obstacle in pregnancy to date.

✓ But PCOS is largely responsible for female infertility.

✓ It becomes difficult to conceive due to hormonal irregularities.
